The Rock Hole Fire Ants basketball team has been formed through the support of KRYS Global and the National Council of Voluntary Organisations with a mission to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect.
The team has also made a commitment to help train some of the children with an interest in basketball at the NCVO’s Nadine Andreas Foster Home. Team captain Gordon Solomon spoke about the importance of their efforts.
“Working with these youths helps to draw awareness to the issue of abuse,” Solomon said. “Hopefully I can inspire them to be good citizens.”
For the record, the Fire Ants have been around for a number of years. The squad regularly competes in division two of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association national men’s league.
To mark the new sponsorship, Solomon designed a one-of-a-kind basketball team uniform with ants as their icon and “Report Child Abuse” as their slogan. A Caymanian artist, he is a former player on the Cayman Islands national team from 1994 to 1998. He joined forces with Leroy Stuart, Jason McKenzie and Maxwell Linwood to put together the team.KRyS Global Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Krys states his company is pleased to support local sports.
“KRyS Global encourages kids to be active and have fun doing it” Krys said. “We’re pleased to be able to support such a great sports programme for young people.”
