Butler siblings make waves at UK meet for Plymouth Leander

Lara and Geoffrey Butler are now home after competing in the 2012 British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships (50 metres) with their UK-based swim club, Plymouth Leander.

Each had to make a qualifying time to be eligible to compete and while sister Lara has been at school in England and swimming with Leanders for the last year – Geoffrey has just completed Year 11 at Cayman Prep and High School and made his qualifying time when competing at CARIFTA this past April.

Lara, Girls 17-18, competed in the 100m and 200m Butterfly; made it to the semi-finals in the 200m Fly and moved up from being ranked 27th in Great Britain pre-Meet to being ranked 13th in Great Britain in that event with a time of 2:22.29.

Geoffrey competed in the 1500m Freestyle and while he did not achieve a personal best (this time) he enjoyed the experience and is very much looking forward to training in Plymouth next year. Their swim club won top overall club.

The two are back at home for some well-deserved rest but they will keep their training up at the Lions Aquatic Centre, where they will swim with Coach Andy Copley and the rest of their Cayman-based Stingray Swim Cub team-mates. The club will be hosting a swim camp on 13-17 August.
