Harbour House gives away boat

A young Caymanian has a new boat for hunting fish.

Harbour House Marina recently had a very successful annual boat show with record numbers. Customers took advantage of 20 per cent off all chandlery and up to $10,000 off the price of new boats.

News of the Harbour House Marina boat show comes during an eventful time for local fishing. The Barcadere Marina, a regular venue for many competitive angling tournaments, announced this summer it will launch the George Town Yacht Club development in November 2012. It will be located at the end of North Sound Road, in George Town on Grand Cayman and be accessible by land or sea. The yacht club will include a restaurant and bar and a second floor club house featuring a member’s lounge with large screen TVs and a huge balcony overlooking the North Sound.

Cayman marine icon Guy Harvey earned accolades abroad through his daughter Jessica Harvey, 22. Jessica landed a massive 600-plus pound swordfish – the largest caught by a female angler in the last 30 years and one of the biggest ever on record.

Jessica was part of her father’s expeditions team, who were in Isla Mujeres, Mexico to film the renowned whale shark aggregations as part of a new documentary. The entire adventure was captured on film. Jessica is already an International Game Fishing Association Junior World Record holder.

Under the guidance of boat captain Anthony Mendillo and the crew of Keen M Sportfishing, Jessica used a conventional rod and reel to hook the fish in about 1,550 feet of water, some 15 miles offshore. She battled the fish for nearly three hours. The catch is a new record for Isla Mujeres, an island located off Cancun.
