Ladies want more Friday drama

Women’s flag football is seeking more enthusiasm for night-time games.

The Dart Women’s League, put on by the Grand Cayman Flag Football Association, will now be putting on two matches on Friday nights at the Camana Bay Sports Field. The change took effect last week and continues until the end of the regular season on 7 September.

The association released a brief statement about the new schedule. The statement reads, “After the positive feedback from players and coaches this weekend, we have modified the schedule to play two games on Friday night. There will be no further changes to the remainder of the Saturday games. Please encourage everyone to come out tomorrow night and Saturday to support the four teams as we head into a very exciting round two.”

Week 11 of the 16-week season starts on Friday, 10 August. At 8pm, the Hammerheads Lady Sharks battle the Lone Star Jager Monsters while the Androgroup Killa-Panthers face the Subway Stingers. Hammerheads are arguably the hottest side in the league thanks to the stellar play of quarterback Hong Nguyen and will look to maintain their winning ways against a decent Jager Monsters squad featuring talents like Renee Thompson.

On Saturday, 11 August, the Zulu Warriors challenge the HOT 104.1 Cheetahs at 10am with the Burger King Wolverines battling the Maples Bliss at 11am. Zulu have proven formidable behind veterans such as Shamar Ennis and Dionne Whittaker while the Cheetahs are dangerous rookies who sport talents like Jamesette Anglin. Burger King have one of the league’s best hurlers in Antoinette Thompson and the Maples defence, with ladies such as Malaqui Awe, will have its hands full.
