Police investigate hit and run drivers

Police are trying to track down a hit and run driver who knocked down a man as he walked along West Bay Road Saturday night.

The victim was struck sometime between 10:30pm and 11pm, Saturday, 25 August, opposite Public Beach, by a driver who failed to stop.

Police said the hit-and-run victim had been walking with a group of people when he was hit by the vehicle. He sustained serious head and facial injuries and remained in serious but stable condition at the Cayman Islands Hospital Monday afternoon.

Anyone who was the area around this time or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact PC Meeks at the George Town Police Station on 949-4222.

In a separate incident, police arrested a driver on suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday evening after he drove away from the scene of a road crash.

At about 7.50pm Saturday, 25 August, two Honda motor cars were being driven north on West Bay Road. As one of the vehicles attempted to negotiate a right hand turn into Galleria Plaza, it was struck from behind by the second Honda.

The driver and passenger from the first car were taken to hospital for treatment, but later released.

The second car drove away from the scene of the crash. The car and driver were traced a short distance away by police and the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

He was subsequently released on police bail.

  1. Just wondering if there was a little more description for the first vehicle?

The casualty was with a group of people so there must be some general details – even type (hatchback, compact, saloon, truck, SUV) and colour might help to jog peoples memory?
