Police investigate attack on cruise passenger

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is investigating a reported sexual attack on a female cruise ship passenger.

According to police, the incident happened in late July. It was not proactively reported by the police service.

A statement by the department indicated: “We can confirm that a 43-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, 18 August on suspicion of attempted rape. The arrest was in connection with an incident involving a female cruise ship passenger in the George Town area on Friday, 27 July, 2012.

“The man has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.”

No charges had been filed in the case as of press time Thursday. Police also did not state whether the young woman who was attacked was physically injured.
