Local baseball needs help to launch its fall season.
The Cayman Islands Little League is putting on its Fall Ball programme. Practices and games began last weekend with more league action taking place this week at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
For Little League programme and facilities director Latoya McField, the initiative would benefit from more community support.
“We are inviting all kids and coaches back out to play ball but most importantly to have fun,” McField said. “We are always in need of coaches and assistant coaches. Any parent who would like to volunteer to coach or assist coaching their child’s team should please let me know. The season will run from 15 September to 1 December.”
Compared to the regular spring season, Fall Ball has an extra emphasis on fun with rosters being flexible. There will be combined practices, drills and scrimmage games on the agenda.
Fall Ball practices will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5.30pm. Single A (for kids aged 9-10) and Double A (11-12) take the field on Tuesdays, with Pony (7-8) and Girls Softball (11-16) on Wednesdays and Triple A (13-15) on Thursdays.
Games are slated for every Friday from 5pm and on Saturdays from 4pm. On Fridays, T-Ball (5-6) and Pony play at 5.15-6.30pm with A at 6.45-8pm. On Saturdays, Girls Softball is at 4-5.30pm with AA and AAA at 6-7.30pm.
Participants are asked to come out in the same uniforms that they played in during the past spring season. New registrants are welcome and can register online or via email or at the field.
News of the Fall Ball programme comes as Little League nears the climax of the Fall Adult Co-Ed Softball League. Over 20 teams are playing throughout the week, with the playoffs starting in mid-October.
