West Bay football clubs Future and Scholars International have joined forces to put on a fundraiser which will also help improve basic skills amongst females as well as males.
It is a four-a-side tournament on 12 and 14 October, beginning at 5.30pm. It will be at the TE McField Annex field or West Bay’s Ed Bush.
The 4 v 4 competition will have Under-13 and Under-17 boys and girls along with men’s and women’s divisions. Additional entertainment will consist of various challenges in dribbling skills, free kicks and one-on-one competitions.
The two main organisers are coaches Chris Douglas of Scholars International and Future’s Olsen Bush who are both passionate about football youth development. Bush said: “Sponsors would be welcome to enable us provide refreshments, pay fields, officials and other expenses.
“What inspired us was the need to encourage more youngsters to participate in the local game and also motivate them to make a disciplined effort to improve technically
“The response so far has been very encouraging in just a few days of distributing forms. People may be encouraged to get their teams entered as soon as possible as we may have to limit the teams based on responses so far.
“We hope to make this an annual thing, obviously much bigger next year and going forward.
This fundraiser is to assist both teams in their girls’ and women’s programmes to help cover costs for the upcoming season to enter more competitions and to assist in development of their younger players.
