Woman attacked in downtown lot

Royal Cayman Islands Police are investigating the armed robbery of a woman along the George Town waterfront Friday night.

Officers said the woman’s handbag was taken during the heist.The male suspect involved was carrying a machete, according to police.

The woman was taken to hospital with a wound to her hand, according to initial reports.

She was set upon in the vicinity of Rackam’s pub, police said. 

Late Friday, police detectives were trying to establish the exact location of the assault. The victim was taken to hospital in a private car and was not on scene when police arrived.

Police said the robber was around 5’7″ tall and slim with a blue long-sleeved shirt, dark pants and a black baseball hat.

Officers said the contents of the woman’s handbag included a Blackberry Bold, a Nikon 9100 camera, a white and blue wallet that contained both local and overseas credit cards. A small amount of cash was also taken in the robbery, police said.

Police described the wound to the victim’s hand as “minor” and said she would be discharged from the hospital overnight.
