The newly formed Zulu’s Warriors women’s flag football team reached the championship game but did not manage to take home the trophy.
It was nevertheless a great achievement for the novice side who lost 18-6 to the more organised Burger King Wolverines.
Andreas ‘Zulu’ Kettner is Cayman’s Red Bull distributor who sponsored the Warriors, as he does with many teams and sports events.
He said: “Overall, I would say it was a fantastic season for the Warriors. The team consisted of nearly all new players to the league and we are very proud of them.
“Reaching the finals, with such a new team and great coaches – Rex Whittaker and Josh Pawlik – was the highlight for me. Next season there is only one place to go, and that is to the top of the league.”
With Pirates’ Week approaching Zulu is again bringing over to the Cayman Islands an international extreme sports athlete.
“This year we have invited Orlando Duque and two of his friends, from the Red Bull Cliff Diviing team to show off their skills, by diving off various obstacles in Hog Sty Bay for the pre-landing show. Red Bull loves backing extreme sports achievements and I loved watching Red Bull Stratos’ Felix Baumgartner’s epic free fall from space on Sunday.”
Zulu is also involved in organising the Fans of Formula 1 club, who meet at their new venue of Fidel Murphy’s on the West Bay Road from 8.30am on a Sunday morning every time a grand prix is on. The next one is the Indian race in New Delhi on 28 October.
Zulu said: “We’re embracing our new Fidel’s home. The group has grown and since we’ve been there, Red Bull has won the last three!”
