The West Indie Marine Patriots remain the kings of fast-pitch softball.
The Cayman Islands Softball Association would like to alert the public that the Patriots recently won its male softball league once again. The Patriots defended their 2011 title successfully by beating Donald Watler’s Latinos in a best-of-seven series.
Initially, the series was tied at two games apiece but the Patriots would win the last two games. Latinos beat Jose’s Escape Pirates in a best-of-five series to make it to the finals.
Heading into the postseason, the defending champions dominated the competition with 19 wins, five losses and zero ties. Leading the assault on Sunday afternoons have been home-run threats Bradimir Robinson (eight homers), Johnny Johnson Senior (six homers) and Peter Whittaker (five homers).
The Pirates had a mediocre 10-11-1-3 record during the regular season behind Byron Bravo’s five home-runs. Latinos were in the cellar with a 5-18-1-1 mark. Matches take place in West Bay, next to the Jimmy Powell cricket oval.
The association would like to thank their faithful fans and sponsors for making the 2012 league a success.
