Bucking the trend of businesses closing and leaving George Town, a small venture selling Mexican sandals has launched in the Cayman Islands capital.
The kiosk is located in Island Plaza next to Margaritaville and caters to cruise ship tourists and as well as local residents.
“We had a good response during the first days,” said owner Janette Beraha. She first noticed the sandals in Playa del Carmen on a holiday. “I bought a pair to walk on the cobble stones of the town,” she said, adding that she was so thrilled with the sandals, she bought them for her entire family.
Back in Grand Cayman it sparked the idea for a new business. “I thought this would work well in Cayman,” Ms Beraha said, given the islands’ climate.
The store sells sandals and strings in various colours with accessories to style and coordinate the footwear with other clothing under exclusive licence for the Cayman Islands.
