Search and rescue for boat

Police launched a search and rescue operation for an 18-foot boat that ran out of fuel while sailing between Grand Cayman and Little Cayman Thursday afternoon.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service received a report about 12.10pm that a single engine Grady White, with two people on board, was stranded without fuel around 28 miles off Grand Cayman.

The Joint Marine and Air Operations Units began searching for the boat and found it around 3.15pm about 22 miles northeast of the main channel. Both crew members were in good health.

The police marine patrol boat Tornado towed the vessel back to Grand Cayman and it was expected to reach land shortly after 5.30 pm.
