Storm Radarz aim for the Stars

Storm Radarz continue to impress on the court.

The squad registered another stunning victory in the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012-2013 open league. Cayman’s national women’s competition sees games at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts.

Storm defeated the Renegades 73-8 last Thursday as part of a triple-header. The other matches saw Rising Stars A beat the Jets 48-18 with the Flames Strikers defeating Unity 35-29. On Saturday, Rising Stars B defeated Ernst and Young Hot Shots 28-22, Optimists crushed Island Heritage 47-5 and the Storm Chaserz forfeited to Cayman National Bank All Stars B.

For the record, the Radarz team is a combination of league veterans from squads such as Roma. Among the stars in the fold are Kay Copeland, Nicola Pringle and Lavern Ebanks.

Technical director for Cayman netball Gillian Lee states Storm are legitimate threats.

“Storm Radarz are certainly looking like the team to challenge last year’s champions, All Stars A,” Lee said. “Both teams have awesome defence ends, fast and sharp centre courts and their shooters finish great plays with accurate shooting.”

League matches continue over the next three months on Thursday and Saturday nights at Truman Bodden. The schedule sees a B division triple-header slated for Thursday, 6 December. At 6.45pm, Island Heritage battle Supa Storm while Storm Chaserz take on Rising Stars B. The featured game at 8pm pits the Hot Shots against the Optimists.

On Saturday, 8 December, the A ranks take centre stage. At 6.45pm, Renegades face Unity while All Stars A combat the Jets. At 8pm, Rising Stars A battle Storm Radarz.

It should be noted that the netball association will be staging a primary school rally at Truman Bodden. The event runs from 12.30pm to 5pm on Friday, 7 December, to provide added competition for youngsters in the sport.
