Fairway to funds

The Cayman Islands Gymnastics Association bounced into the new year with its inaugural Golf Invitational fundraiser at North Sound Club last Friday.

Companies sponsored 16 holes at the event and entered teams. The Deloitte team of Rob Rintoul, Andy Childe, Dan Florek and Jonathan Treadway edged out UBS for the championship and Popeyes took third place, all receiving trophies presented by the Minister for Sports Mark Scotland and Director of Sports, Collin Anglin.

Closest to the pin went to Kerri Kanuga from ReMax for the ladies and to Andy Childe from Deloitte for the men.

Deloitte’s Rob Rintoul took the prize for the long drive with a spectacular 390 yard effort right down the middle of the fairway on hole No.2.

Cayman national team gymnasts Lauren Hill (2011 Island Games and Youth Commonwealth Games), Katie Scott (2011 Island Games), Morgan Lloyd and Haley Willkom drew raffle winners, awarding weekend golf getaways to Sarasota and Orlando, generously sponsored by The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and Cayman Airways, to Greg Link and Martin Byrne.

In July, gymnasts will represent the Cayman Islands at the NatWest Island Games in Bermuda. The team is training up to 20 hours a week and aim to achieve qualifying scores at competitions in Orlando, Tampa and Barbados over the next three months.
