People across Cayman are preparing for the Stride Against Cancer which is staged in two locations, Public Beach on West Bay Road and in North Side.
The walk/run event is on Sunday, 27 January, and is a major fundraiser for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and all of the proceeds from the $25 registration fee will be used to fund the many programmes the society offers to cancer patients and the local community.
It starts and ends at the Public Beach and is over a half-marathon – 13.1 miles – distance beginning at 6am or the option is for the shorter 6.5 mile distance beginning at 7am.
However, organisers say don’t be put off by the distance and anyone interested should come out and walk as far as they can and have enjoy the occasion.
Organiser Jennifer Weber said: “In fact, it’s a Sunday morning, so even if you don’t walk or run come out and show your support, cheer for your friends and family and join us for The Lion’s Club celebrated breakfast.”
Participants in the North Side event start at 7am from the Boat Launch beside Over The Edge and walk or run to Kaibo where transportation back to the Boat Launch will be provided. North Side participants can contact Ann McFarlane at 947-0990 or 925-1899. Anyone wishing to register for the walk may do so on the morning of the event but organisers recommend registering ahead of time.
