Caymanian musicians came out to the Exodus Culture Lounge to pay tribute to Bob Marley on Saturday, 2 February.
Patrons were treated to the sounds of the likes of Andy Blake, Renwick Connolly and Mr. Notch ahead of the upcoming Damian Marley concert, which will take place 1 March. Bob Marley’s official birthday is 6 February.
The musicians were joined by the Localmotion band, which provided the backdrop for an onslaught of Marley covers. As 2 February is also the birthday of the “Crowned Prince” of Reggae, Dennis Brown, several of his songs were additionally covered by the artists.
“It is important to celebrate our past and the great works that have been done through the course of time, as it is a reminder of what an awesome responsibility we have as musicians, artists and as a people to mankind,” says musician Jean-Eric Smith, aka Notch, as he is known in musical circles.
He added that the evening was a great way to get people energised just prior to the Damian Marley show.
“We’re ‘Jamming’ from now,” he joked.
During the evening guests danced the night away in a trance induced by the hypnotic melodies of genius. The pride and joy were palpable as folks let the music take their worries away, if even only for a night.
The night also solidified the Exodus Culture Lounge as one of the premier live venues on West Bay Road.
The flavour is rich and the atmosphere lends itself to a live revue. In fact, the vision of the club’s owner is just that.
Club owner Owner Craig Nixon said the Exodus Culture Lounge is a place where people can come to be around the buzz on the music scene in the Cayman Islands, and be exposed to some really hip and interesting happenings.
