US winter storm affects some Cayman flights

Update 4pm Friday: Cayman Airways has now cancelled its Friday flight to New York,
scheduled for 4.10pm, and its Saturday flight, also to New York, scheduled for
8.30am.

The airline is also offering to waive “change fees” for
anyone travelling to New York or Washington between February 8 and February 10
who wishes to reschedule, providing certain conditions are met.

In addition to Cayman Airways, Jet Blue has cancelled flights from Grand Cayman to New York and Boston Saturday because of the huge blizzard that is heading for the east coast of the United States.

As of 2pm Friday, the airline had cancelled 640 flights in the area impacted by the storm, including Saturday’s flights from George Town to JFK and Boston airports.

The winter storm is expected to bring two feet of snow to the east coast over the weekend.

Jet Blue said in a statement: “We’re keeping a close eye on the impending winter storm expected to impact the north-east and New England regions tomorrow and are planning our operations accordingly.

“To date, we’ve proactively cancelled 640 flights in this area and will continue to monitor and adjust our operations as needed.”
