The Cayman Heart Fund raised about $30,000 during its annual, fun-filled Red Dress Gala earlier this year.
The organisation, which supports the fight against heart disease, held its gala fundraising event on Friday, 8 February, at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort on West Bay Road.
This year’s dinner and dance had a glamorous Hollywood theme and was dubbed the “Red Dress Oscar Gala”.
Although all the guests were dressed to the nines, some truly embraced the Hollywood theme and came as their favourite movie stars, such as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Elizabeth Taylor, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Charlie’s Angels.
However, the judges decided that the ultimate Hollywood couple were Michelle Allard-Boyle and Bob Boyle, who stayed in character throughout the night as Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog. Miss Piggy even took Governor Duncan Taylor for a whirl on the dance floor.
In her acceptance speech for the couple’s grand prize (Kermit couldn’t get a word in edgeways), Miss Piggy thanked the organisers for dinner, adding that she was pleased it hadn’t included any pork.
The crowd took to the dance floor as soon as the music, supplied by Ron Adams’ Rat Pack and local band Sea’N B, began.
The event is the organisation’s major fundraiser each year.
