Romance and reggae music combined sweetly at the Mango Tree as part of the Valentine’s celebrations last Friday.
Reggae crooner Terry Linen made the hop over from Jamaica and delighted the packed venue with his mix of original songs and covers of classics.
Bob Marley’s birthday was the previous week and so there was the inevitable tribute and there was a nod to the late Garnett Silk with an immaculate rendition of Mama Africa.
Bouncing around in luminous green Terry Linen had the crowd mesmerised and baying for more even after two encores.
No Time To Linger is his signature tune but Call On A Friend and the perennial crowd favourite Couldn’t Be The Girl For Me were just as enthusiastically received. Whitney Houston’s My Love Is Your Love was another big tune. Linen certainly has a silky voice.
Linen was brought over by Hot104.1FM presenter Super C who after his success with the legendary John Holt at the same venue continued in the same lover’s rock vein. It worked a treat.
Local acts that performed earlier were Ivor Jones, Andrea Rivera, Andre Leon, Singing Diamond and Andrew Priest accompanied by the Unity Band.
Super C is also a footballer with West Bay’s Future Sports Club and part of the proceeds will again go to the club.
He said: “Terry Linen went down a storm. Some people said they enjoyed him even more than John Holt.
“He certainly has a lot of energy and presence on stage and they loved him.”
