Secondary schools in Grand Cayman have another shot at football glory.
The third annual Private Schools Association Interscholastic Football Tournament will be held at the Cayman International School football pitch on Thursday, 28 February. Participating schools include St. Ignatius, Grace Christian Academy, Wesleyan Christian Academy, Triple C, Cayman Prep, Hope Academy, Cayman Academy and Cayman International.
Opening ceremonies for the seven-on-seven tournament begin at 8.30am. The first games are scheduled to begin at 9am between the girls’ teams from St. Ignatius and Wesleyan, as well as Cayman International School and Cayman Prep. The final games will begin at 5pm between the semifinal winners and runners-up.
The Dart Group of Companies is sponsoring the tournament.
In 2012, 13 teams took part in the one-day event at Cayman International. The host school would come out on top in the men’s segment, beating Cayman Prep, 1-0, in the final thanks to a Jack Graham goal. Cayman Academy, the 2011 winner, placed third.
Prep would emerge the girls champion by thrashing Cayman International, 4-1, in the final. St. Ignatius finished in third place and Triple C was fourth. Kingsley Firth, of Cayman International, and Nikki Whittaker, of Cayman Prep, were tournament Most Valuable Players.
