McKeeva Bush charged on 11 counts

Police charged former Cayman Islands Premier McKeeva Bush on Wednesday afternoon with breach of trust, misconduct and theft.

Mr. Bush, who had been released on police bail overnight after undergoing a day of questioning Tuesday, returned to the Financial Crime Unit office at Elizabethan Square on Wednesday, where he was charged on 11 counts – two counts of misconduct in a public office, four counts of breach of trust by a member of the Legislative Assembly, contrary to Section 13 of the Anti-Corruption Law 2008, and five counts of theft, contrary to section 241 of the Penal Code 2007 Revision.

He was bailed to appear in Grand Court on 12 April.

Police sent details of interviews with Mr. Bush to the Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryll Richards on Tuesday, who advised on whether to lay charges against the ex-premier.
