Red Bay will set ‘Primary’ mark

Defending champions Red Bay Primary appears likely to repeat in this year’s Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships, which start on Thursday and finish the following day.

It is at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex and with the likes of Bradley Erskine, Alex Gordon, Tori-Ann-Gones, Nathaniel Williams, Jaevan Maxwell and Revaughn Johnson expected to lead the charge, the defending champions have depth across all classes and could well surpass the 402 points they scored last year.

Second place Prospect Primary are the likeliest challengers to Red Bay’s reign and their ambitions should be led by the likes of Ashantae Graham, Hannah Welcome and Xavi Rivera.

George Town Primary will find it hard to replace Kasey Faud-Edwards, D’Andre Rowe and Josette Facey and will have to rely a lot on the talents of Joshua O’Garro and Isaac Ebanks in hopes of retaining their third place finish.

Former champions Sir John A. Cumber Primary will have to work hard to get in the top three. Placings more so than victories are what they will most likely have to accomplish if they are to improve on last year’s fourth place finish.

The athletes that they will be depending on include Taj Yen, Tahan Rice, Alexei McField, Cam’ron Solomon and Stoyanna Stewart.

In Division 2, Savannah Primary’s girls and Red Bay’s boys both dominated Division 1 last year and it looks like it will be much the same this year.

In Division 3, Red Bay looks set to dominate. It would not be surprising if they amassed most of their points from this group of athletes.

Division 4 is expected to be the most competitive division with the likes of Bodden Town, Prospect and Sir John A. Cumber expecting to have a keen tussle amongst the girls, while in the boys grouping a rivalry is expected to develop between athletes from Red Bay, Sir John A. Cumber and Prospect.

Last year, the open events of girls and boys 800 metres and shot put saw George Town dominating Red Bay.

Sir John A. Cumber won last year’s boys 4x100m junior and senior relays, while Red Bay won the medley relay and Prospect romped to victories in the girls senior and junior 4x100m relays.

With the likes of Tahan Rice, Taj Yen, Cam’ron Solomon and Daniel Wallace available to them, Sir John A. Cumber will be favourites in the senior boys relay but should be pushed all the way by both Red Bay and Prospect.

The junior boys relay team should be easily handled by the defending champions with the battle for second a keen one between Sir John A. Cumber, Prospect, Savannah and Bodden Town.

The girls junior 4x100m relay looks like a straight fight between Red Bay and Prospect. Savannah, Sir John A. Cumber and Prospect should battle hard for the minor placings.

The senior girls 4x100m will be a struggle between Prospect, Sir John A. Cumber and Red Bay.

The public is invited to attend.
