FA Cup matches are usually tight affairs, even when the
lesser favoured teams barely stand a chance on paper. But that was far from the
case as Elite smashed eight past East End without reply in a quarterfinal match
at the Ed Bush Sports Centre on Sunday.
It must have been a glum journey home for East End as they
saw Mark Ebanks open the scoring in the fourth minute, hitting his second eight
minutes later with more strikes coming from Jairo Sanchez (26th and 45th),
Marvin Boothe (35th), Carlos Andrade (54th), Cesar Dixon (75th and Danner
Elite’s Premier League challenge has fallen away recently,
but they are an outstanding cup team and when the draw is made on Tuesday they
will be fancied to reach the final, especially if matched against Tigers, who
beat Roma in the earlier game in West Bay on penalties.
Alfredo Challenger opened the scoring in the first minute
for Tigers before Eric Brown looked to have sealed it in the 73rd minute.
Roma have a fighting spirit which was evident as they pulled
two back through Gavin Reynolds in the 80th and 86th minutes.
There was no conclusion after extra time so it went to the
dreaded penalty shootout and Roma held their nerve better to nick it 4-2.
Gerald Watkin made two brilliant saves for Roma and
Roma’s scorers were Gavin Renalds, Kemar Booth, Steve Dunkley, and Marlon Dunk.
Roma are the only First Division team in the semis.
The TE McField Annex in George Town cup cavaliers George
Town did it again with a 3-0 victory over Academy Sporting Club.
Tex Whitelocke hit two in the 43rd and 78th minutes and
Justin Pierre got one in the 67th.
Bodden Town are totally focused on winning the Premier League
and are riding high. Their FA Cup tie was against Sunset who head the First
Division table and look likely to seal automatic promotion soon.
This game was a great opportunity for Sunset to gauge their
improvement. Well they held their own until the midway through the second half
when Bodden Town’s brilliant inter-play and movement off the ball overran them.
Arvid Harris, Allan Andra and Dwayne “Gaza” Wright found the
net for a comfortable 3-0 win.
The FA Cup semifinals are on 28 April and the final is on 19
This weekend’s Premier League action sees Scholars
International taking on George Town in the 5pm game at Ed Bush and Elite facing
Cayman Athletic in the 7pm game.
It is a must-win game for league champs Scholars who
surprisingly only drew with bottom club Tigers in their last game. Scholars are
six points behind Bodden Town with three matches to play.
The two top sides have yet to meet but that result could be
irrelevant if George Town win on Sunday and Bodden Town beat Tigers in the late
game at the TE McField Annex on the same day.
Academy face North Side in the early Annex game.
Gaza Wright was rampant before Christmas, scoring 11 in the
league. But injury and loss of sharpness since has seen only three strikes
Scholars midfielder Nahun Rodriguez tops the league scoring
chart with 15. Elite’s Mark Ebanks has notched 13.
