KPMG boys and Cashwiz cash in

With seven weeks in the books, the 2013 Cayman Islands Little League Single A Division is heating up in advance of the playoffs.

Team KPMG led the way with five wins out of six, with Crossfit 7 Milers and Team Cashwiz close on their heals with four wins apiece. Team Vigoro and Team Pizza Hut have shown form in recent weeks and will be feeling confident about producing an upset.

The competitive nature of the Single A Division was clear again this week in two very tight games. Crossfit 7 Milers just edged Vigoro 7-5 in a game in which Vigoro took a 5-3 lead early thanks to great hitting from Rashaad Powery and Dillan Dacosta, with solid pitching from Joanky Montero holding the prolific 7 Milers to just three runs through two innings.

The Crossfit 7 Milers were able to stay in the game, thanks to scoreless innings pitched by Oliver Johns and Ryan Godwin. They pulled into a narrow lead with timely hits from Matthew Dube and Jathan Barnes. The 7 Milers got out of a jam in the final inning with flame thrower Brad Lansdell leaving the tying runs on base for Vigoro in one of the games of the season.

In the other match, league leaders KPMG pulled out another victory against a hard luck Pizza Hut side who have only lost by the narrowest of margins this year. Jakob Kunzer starred with the bat and the ball, pitching two solid innings and getting a crucial hit.

Noah Booker staked his claim for an all star spot after another impressive performance and Angelo Forbes pitched a perfect third inning to close out the game. Team Pizza Hut have much to feel good about after yet more great outings from Arie Ebanks, Tristan Hall and Shayana Windsor. They will fear no one come playoff time.

Enjoying a well-earned week off were Team Cashwiz, who return to action this week against lead leaders KPMG. David Harris continues to be a power hitting machine with Alejandro Holness looking to take the strikeout crown. With strong performances from Gabe Fisher and Alex Johnson, they will be looking to take top spot when they meet KPMG this Friday night at the Field of Dreams.
