SOY football event set for Saturday

The Save Our Youth Foundation has rescheduled its annual Football Extravaganza/Family Fun Day for Saturday, 15 June, after a postponement due to rain.

The event encourages young people to make positive choices, while enjoying a day of sports and family-friendly activities.

This year, SaxonMG has joined the effort as a major sponsor of this event, which features an all-day series of football matches at the Annex football field in George Town.

There will be 20 teams competing in four different categories: boys U-15, boys U-17, girls U-17 and girls U-20.

The participating clubs are Bodden Town, Elite, Academy, Roma, George Town, Scholars and Cayman Athletic Sports Club.

The event, which is free to the public, kicks off at 10am and ends at 6pm. The day will also feature a match-up between players from Cayman and Jamaica vying for the Unity Cup. The theme for the event is “Positive Choices”.

In addition to football, guest speakers will talk to youngsters about the importance of making positive decisions that lead to a productive and healthy life. The goal is to raise awareness among Cayman’s youth about the issues affecting them, including drug abuse, violence, crime, peer pressure and the dangers of prison.
