Car lovers should stay revved up in the coming months.
The Cayman Motorsports Association has two races in its 2013 Time Attack series planned this summer. The next meet in the monthly autocross competition is scheduled for 28 July with more action on 25 August.
Heading into the summer, drivers like Craig Burke, Marcus Huggins and Bobby Hulse have had dominant performances this season. All did well back in May when the association highlighted night-time driving at the Progressive Loop in George Town. Burke, in his Subaru Impreza GC8 RA, won the Street class with a 66.704 second run.
Huggins teamed up with dad Gary Huggins in the Kimmar Distributors Toyota Starlet KP61 in the Unlimited category. The duo finished second and third with Marcus placing just 0.066 seconds behind his dad. Marcus would rebound and win the Unlimited Battle run.
Hulse, in his Toyota Altezza SXE10, won the group in a time of 65.357 seconds and finished second in the battle run.
A number of racers did well back in May. Michael Weatherford had a respectable fourth place Unlimited class finish in his red Subaru GC8 Sti, Reynaldo Powery was third in the Street segment in his Nissan Primera P10 and Sacha Tibbetts won the Street Battle run after placing second in the group stages in his BMW M3 E46.
It will be interesting to see if other racers make more positive strides in the coming weeks. Luther Lyons, competing in a Toyota Altezza SXE10, is consistently dropping his time, Nick Young could be a force in a Honda Integra GSR DC2 and Richard Crawshaw continues to show promise in his Porsche Carerra 4S.
