The Cayman Islands Humane Society is holding a Vegas-style fundraiser, dubbed Oceans 11, tonight (Friday) at The Living Room, located in The Strand, along West Bay Road.
The red carpet event includes a host of casino games, including roulette, craps, poker and black jack, as well as raffles and giveaways. Guests will each receive $200 worth of playing chips, which can be redeemed at the end of the night for a wide range of fabulous gifts, from flat screen TVs, Cayman Airways air tickets and gift certificates to local restaurants.
Event organiser Jason Smith requests guests dress to impress.
“We are aiming to create a really fun, Vegas-style red carpet event,” he said. “We hope to bring the glitz and glamour of Vegas for one night to Cayman. This is going to be a great night, and all in aid of the shelter animals.”
Local DVJ Carter will be spinning the tunes throughout the night, while guests will be able to indulge in a selection of complimentary food provided by The Living Room.
Janette Fitzgerald, Humane Society director, said that funds raised will be used towards ongoing efforts of the shelter to control Cayman’s animal overpopulation.
“One of the most important aspects of the shelter is to promote our spay and neuter programme,” she said. “We have previously run a four-day programme offering spay and neuter surgeries for free, along with a free Cost-U-Less voucher for $50. This was very popular and I can honestly say that the people who brought their animals to the shelter for the surgery would not have usually done so.
“Spay and neuter really is the key to controlling Cayman’s animal population. We would like to get planning for our next spay and neuter programme, so hope to use funds from this event.”
Tickets, priced at $100, are selling fast, and are available at the shelter on North Sound Road. Alternatively, a limited number will be available on the door. The event runs from 7pm to 2am.
