Police arrest three following crash

Police in Grand Cayman arrested three people Friday night following a car crash by Countryside Shopping Village in Newlands.

The vehicle was travelling along Hirst Road when it collided with a utility pole around 6.45pm Friday, police said. The occupants of the vehicle – two men and a woman – attempted to flee the scene and were detained by authorities.

The heavy police presence at the scene prompted quickly-spread rumours that one or more of the prison inmates who escaped from Northward prison Wednesday night had been caught. But authorities issued a statement Friday night dispelling those rumours.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Barrow said, “Please note that contrary to rumours presently being circulated, the escapees from Northward prison were not among the occupants of the vehicle.”

The three inmates – Steve Manderson, Marcus Manderson and Chadwick Dale – remain at large.

There were no injuries reported in connection with the crash.

Anyone who was in the vicinity at the time and can assist the police with information are asked to contact Bodden Town police station at 947-2220.
