Students head back to schools next week

Summer’s nearly over for the thousands of schoolchildren throughout the Cayman Islands, as schools prepare to open for the new academic year next week. 

The official school year starts on Wednesday, 28 August and all students should be returning to school on that date, unless otherwise specified in the list below. Some new students will be getting an earlier look at their schools on orientation days before the school doors officially open. 

The Ministry of Education and the Department of Education Services on Monday released the dates for new and returning students to government schools for the 2013/2014 year. 

The ministry asked all parents and guardians to ensure that their children attend their respective schools on the correct dates, which are as follows: 

Bodden Town Primary School: Orientation for reception and Year 1 students is on 27 August from 8.30am-noon. 

Creek and Spot Bay Infant and Junior School: All students return to school 28 August. 

East End Primary School: Orientation for new students, 27 August. 

George Town Primary School: Orientation for new students, 23 August from 8am-10am. 

Lighthouse School: Orientation for new students, 27 August from 9am-10am. 

Little Cayman Education Services: All students return to school on 28 August. 

North Side Primary School: Orientation for new students, 27 August from 8.30am-noon. 

Prospect Primary School: Orientation for new students, 27 August from 9am-11am. 

Red Bay Primary School: Orientation for new students, 23 August from 9am-11am. 

Savannah Primary School: Orientation for new students, 27 August. 

Sir John A. Cumber Primary School: Orientation for new students, 23 August from 8.30am-noon. 

West End Primary School: All students return to school on 28 August. 

Cayman Islands Further Education Centre: Release of exam results/initial consulting for Year 12 students is on 27 August from 8.30am and for Year 11 students on 28 August from 8.30am, with class induction for all students on 2 September. 

Clifton Hunter High School: All students return to school on 28 August. 

John Gray High School: Year 7 orientation, 28 August from 8am-2.30pm; Years 8 and 9 orientation, 29 August from 8am-1pm; Years 10 and 11 orientation, 30 August from 8am-2.30pm; all students return to school on 2 September. 

Layman E. Scott Sr. High School: Years 7-11 students return to school on 28 August; release of exam results/initial consulting for Year 12 Students, 29 August from 9am; and class induction for Year 12 students, 2 September.
