Titans are towering over champs

The Tower Marketing Titans are new to local softball in name only.

The Titans feature essentially the same core players who were part of several championship campaigns with former dynasty Home Gas. The group looks set to add to their trophy case as Tower continues to lead the A League in the 2013 Fall Adult Coed Softball League, put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association at the Field of Dreams facility.

Heading into this week, 8-0 Tower led defending group winners KPMG A, 6-2, by two games with 4-4 Rhino Rebar, 3-5 Coors Light Chuggers and 3-5 A.L. Thompson’s Hammers in the mix. The Titans are coming off a 14-10 win over the Hammers and played the Phoenix Hard Hits last night.

The standings elsewhere are much tighter. PwC B, 5-2, are narrowly ahead of 4-2-1 Al La Kebab Hitmen and 4-4 BritCay Premiums. Also in pursuit are 3-4 Hard Hats, 2-3-1 Master Batters, 2-5-1 Rackam’s Crabbies and 2-5-1 Deloitte. PwC surged into first after beating Coors Light, 7-6, and team Dart, 17-12, last week.

Dart, now 5-3, has a slim lead atop the C League ahead of the 4-3 UBS Aces and 3-4-1 Saxon G-Force. The Fluff and Fold Home Gas Misfits are in the cellar at 0-7-1.

Matches continue tonight 8 p.m. at the Field of Dreams. Chuggers battle Rhino Rebar on field three, while PwC challenge Hitmen on field four.

League organizers remind the public that the association’s annual general meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Field of Dreams Clubhouse.

All adult coed players are invited to vote for the next board of directors. Among the topics for discussion is the resurfacing of the fields.

In addition, the association is looking for volunteers to get involved in one of many other ways. For more information, email [email protected]
