Budding Rooneys encouraged to join exciting youth leagues

There are plenty of aspiring footballers who would like to emulate their heroes and become the next Wayne Rooney or Lionel Messi.

The Cayman Islands Football Association gives ambitious kids a chance to do that every season and the new one starts for all youth leagues on Monday Nov. 18.

CIFA has run the youth leagues for many years, with the main focus being development. CIFA’s member clubs are eligible to enter teams in each of the various age groups.

Youth players are encouraged to join one of the many clubs throughout the islands to continue their growth and development as well as enjoyment of football.

The youth leagues encourage players of all ages and abilities to get involved with their local clubs and showcase their skills in exciting matches. All matches take place on a weekly basis with participants working with coaches to ensure that they take the most out of every game.

CIFA Youth leagues are as follows:

Under 17 Boys for players born January 1997 and after

Under 15 Boys for players born January 1999 and after

Under 15 Girls for players born January 1999 and after

Under 13 Boys for players born between Jan. 1, 2001 and Dec. 31, 2003

Under 12 Boys – for players born between Jan. 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2004

In each of the leagues from Under-17s to U-13s teams participate in full 11-a-side matches for league and FA Cup competitions, while the U-12s feature in 9-a-side matches.

Youth players are encouraged to join one of the many clubs throughout the islands to continue their growth and development as well as enjoyment of football.
