Bar staff, patrons robbed

A George Town bar and three of its patrons were held up by armed robbers just before midnight Sunday.

Royal Cayman Islands Police officers received an 11:20 p.m. armed robbery report at Campbell’s Bar on Portland Road.

According to witnesses there, three men entered the establishment carrying handguns and demanding cash.

No one was hurt and no shots were fired. Police said cash was taken from the bar attendant and three patrons were also robbed of their jewelry and cash.

Police said the suspects fled on foot. All of the suspects were dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks.

Just a few days prior to Sunday’s robbery, armed and masked men hit Welly’s Cool Spot in another George Town bar robbery.

Late Thursday, Dec. 26, again around 11 p.m. police received a report that two men entered Welly’s and demanded cash from employees there.

One of the men carried a firearm, police said. A shot was fired during the hold up, but no injuries were reported.

The men stole an undisclosed sum of cash and ran from the scene. Police said they were last seen on Sound Way in George Town.
