Parents still deciding on name for baby boy
The first baby born in the New Year in Cayman is a boy who arrived at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George Town Hospital.
Baby Smith, son of Vanda and Mark Smith, weighed 7 pounds, 6 1/2 ounces at birth.
Mrs. Smith said they did not know they were having a baby boy, “We had an idea, but we were not sure. We had a few names picked out, but we were waiting for the baby to come to see the personality and then decide afterwards.”
Ms Smith said names like Nasri for a boy and Joanna for a girl were but a few that came to mind at the time.
Mrs. Smith said her due date was Dec. 31, but the baby had a bigger surprise for the couple as the first New Year’s baby.
“We were at home, but labor had started from earlier in the day,” Mrs Smith said. “We kind of figured I was in active labor so we waited a while longer before we made our way to the George Town Hospital and got a beautiful baby boy … I was hoping for a New Year’s baby, not today specifically…but a new year’s baby,” she said, all smiles. Mr. Smith said he also wanted a baby in the new year. “I was born January 15, so this is very nice.”
Proud of the new addition to the family, the couple said the newborn will join four other boys at home. The couple also three other children overseas; two boys and one girl.
Mr. Smith said he is excited that it was over and that they would all soon be going home soon.
