Saunders is in shape to be Healthy Run's fastest again

Jason Saunders is one of the fastest middle and long distance runners in the Cayman Islands and he is set to feature in a race he has won in its only two previous stagings.

The 2014 Healthy Body Healthy Mind Walk/Run is on Saturday, April 5, and Saunders wants to be the fastest again.

This year the organizers want to encourage more school participation, so the date was moved from Easter Sunday, April 19, when some athletes are away competing at CARIFTA.

This is a charity event hosted by Winners Circle Sports, The No. 1 Shoe Shop and Sport N Zone, and they expect it to be bigger and better than before.

This year, proceeds go to Hi-Tec Track Club and to assist the George Town Primary Parents-Teachers Association. Both charities are in keeping with the run’s name, Healthy Body Healthy Mind, as one is athletic and the other educational.

The technical organization of the walk/run is done by the Department of Sports and Hi-Tec Track Club.

Saunders won last year in 16 minutes, 57 seconds. Tiffany Cole was the first female finisher, completing the course in 21:06. Saunders ran an exceptionally fast leg at the Cross Island Relay last week so is in good form.

The course starts and finishes at the No. 1 Shoe Shop on Hospital Road, George Town.

Registration is $20. First 200 registrants get a free T-shirt.
