Volleyball camp to hit beach

Kalyn Klaess, a native of Huntington Beach, California, who lives in New York City, is bringing a top-rated youth beach volleyball camp to the beaches of Grand Cayman.

Klaess, a University of Rhode Island graduate, in 2009 guided her team to one of the best seasons the school has seen in more than 12 years. Since 2007, she has been coaching women’s volleyball (sand and court), including teams in Southern California and states along the east coast of the U.S.

She ranked in both Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) beach volleyball tournaments throughout Southern California from the seasons of 2006 to 2011. She has developed a beach volleyball camp designed for kids of all skill levels.

Champs Volleyball Camp introduces beginners to the fundamentals of beach volleyball and aims to further develop players’ skills.

The camp consists of training, drills, offensive skills, defensive skills, fun challenges and team competition. It also provides prizes, snacks and beverages, a daily dip in the ocean and a free T-shirt.

The Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation has paired with Klaess to endorse the camp in an effort to bring more youth players to the game.

The camp will take place at Public Beach from March 3 to 7, with a morning session from 9 a.m. to noon. An evening session will run from 3 to 6 p.m. Signups are open for all players between the ages of 7 and 14.
