The Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s “Red Sky at Night” event was one of the most colorful and entertaining celebrations of all things Caymanian.
Amid the trees and lakes near the Harquail Theatre Saturday night, lights from hundreds of shimmering red bulbs transformed the grounds into an enchanting walk-through for visitors enjoying live performances from dancers, actors and storytellers and creative works by local visual artists and crafts people.
“It was an enchanting evening, rich in arts and culture,” said artist Twyla Vargas, who took part in the tree decorating contest, decorating her tree with dolls.
The Cultural Foundation folk singing choir, whose members made their way around the grounds, helped bring the event to life with sweet melodies of yesteryear while dancing to the beat of old-time music.
Other highlights included steel pan, fiddle and drum music, and a mouth-watering array of local foods. Celebrated films from around the Caribbean and inspiring performance were also featured in the festival theaters.
“It is truly a marvelous festival that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to take advantage of the abundance of the amazing talent that we have right here in Cayman when it comes to our creative industries,” Marcia Muttoo, managing director of CNCF, said in a press release.
