Round Three of The Security Centre Squash League provided some positive movement for both TSCL Sheriffs and AON.
The Sheriffs claimed maximum points against KPMG Kobras, showing no mercy to the accountants by taking the match 13 points to one. The whitewash was prevented by the single game claimed by Tony Riker against Mike Cansell.
This result promoted the Sheriffs from fifth to third in the standings.
AON also put on an impeccable performance against the South Sound Squash Club All Star team. This match-up provided some excellent junior clashes, first on court was AON’s Alexandra Artuch, 15, against Charlie Riker, 11. Riker narrowly claimed the first game in a tie break, but Artuch’s experience took over and she went on to win the following three games.
The C players were next and this was the match of the evening, as Isaiah Robinson, 14, of All Stars matched up against Jasun Sairsingh, 13. They are teammates on the Cayman junior national squad and it showed in their match.
The first game went to Sairsingh 11-8, but Robinson bounced back and demolished Sairsingh in the second, 11-0. The third was a tight game up to seven-all, but Sairsingh turned on some extra speed and accuracy to claim the next four points and the game, 11-7.
The fourth game was exactly the same as the third, but for Robinson who took the game 11-7. The fifth was a full-on assault with both players scrambling and diving around the court in order to keep the ball in play. The rallies were substantially longer than the previous games and the spectators were gasping at the extraordinary effort displayed by these two. In the end, it was Robinson who triumphed 11-9.
Over in the B match, it was a little one-sided with Myron Blair beating Gyles Luke 3-0. This was followed by the A string, where the Murphy Twins played against each other. AON’s Daniel Murphy showed his brother Sean who was the boss on the night, edging him out 3-0. This win for AON gave them enough points to leapfrog DMS for the pole position in the league after round three.
