Champs will delight

The legendary karate exponents Team Paul Mitchell last visited the Cayman Islands 16 years ago, making such an impression that those who saw that exhibition still talk in awe about it.

The Arts and Recreation Center at Camana Bay will host the team again on Saturday. They are in Grand Cayman for a training camp.

“The Night of Champions martial arts exhibition is the perfect event to bring the whole family,” organizer Bob Daigle said. “Caitlin Dechelle who was recently in Jackie Chan’s ‘Chinese Zodiac’ movie cannot wait to perform her signature sword demo here.”

The constantly traveling team comprises of athletes from many countries and could choose anywhere in the world to have their training camp but preferred Cayman. A few of their training sessions are going to be in the sea.

“Training in water is a great way to improve your endurance and explosiveness,” Daigle said. “I can’t wait for their reaction when they see Seven Mile Beach for the first time.”

There will be a free sneak preview demo on Friday from 5.30-6 p.m. on the Crescent at Camana Bay, where people can meet the 12-member team and watch them perform.

On Saturday, the Night of Champions martial arts exhibition will be from 6-7 p.m.

Daigle is a renowned instructor and his Cayman Karate Academy children will put on a demonstration they have been practicing for weeks before the demos by Team Paul Mitchell.

“We would like to thank Red Sail Sports for sponsoring jet ski rentals for the team and Dream nightclub for making a cash donation,” Daigle added.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Body Sculptor Fitness Centre at the Mirco Centre on North Sound Way or at the door starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

“Special thanks to Camana Bay for sponsoring the venue for this showcase,” said Daigle. “I can’t say enough about how helpful they have been.”

Tickets for the show are $10. Net proceeds will provide martial arts scholarships for young Caymanians who cannot afford martial arts lessons.
