Flag football is set to start its adult leagues.
The Cayman Islands Flag Football Association is hosting the opening jamboree for its 2014 summer league. Ed Bush field in West Bay will serve as host on June 14 from noon until about 4 p.m. There will be a total of 13 teams, with seven women’s squads – Lynx, Wolverines, Star Athletic Club, Sharks, Scorpions, B’zzz and Zulu – and six men’s sides – Maples, Cox, Hellcats, Panthers, KPMG and Mustangs.
Each team will be scheduled two scrimmage games, which will last 20 minutes. The association will have a table set up collecting names of persons interested in playing in an attempt to get people onto a team. The 2014 league, which features opening games on June 21, is looking to match last year’s turnout of 18 squads.
The Panthers have the momentum heading into this season as they claimed their first championship in franchise history in 2013 using a veteran group of players such as Simon Rivers, quarterback Chris Lucas and Paul Chin.
