Teacher charged with child abuse

A Cayman Islands school teacher has been charged with a string of sex offenses against three male students.

Delroy Anthony James, 32, a teacher in the public school system, has been suspended from his job since his arrest in December last year.

He appeared in Summary Court on Thursday afternoon charged with three counts of indecent assault on a male, three counts of gross indecency and one of possessing an indecent photograph of a child.

The teacher also faces five charges of child cruelty, one of attempted indecent assault on a male and one of misuse of information communications technology.

James was denied bail by Magistrate Valdis Foldats. The charges were transmitted to Grand Court where James will appear again on Friday, June 20.
