Bodden Towners and visitors to the district had a crab-filled day over the weekend when the local heritage committee hosted a Crab Fest.

Baked crab back, fry crab and fish rundown were on the menu, and diners enjoyed these delicacies as they listened to music provided by Rennard Powell and friends.
Pedro Walter, a member of the Bodden Town Heritage Committee, said the Crab Fest brought people together in a atmosphere of fun, promotes Cayman’s cultural heritage and gives visitors the opportunity to taste and see how crab is prepared.
Bodden Town Legislative Assembly Members Osbourne Bodden, Alva Suckoo and Wayne Panton, along with former Speaker of the House Mary Lawrence attended, with some saying the activities reminded them of childhood days rambling the bushes for land crabs and local fruit.
Mr. Bodden even demonstrated his expertise in catching and holding the crabs, one of which nearly got away, to the amusement of his fellow legislators, but he quickly snatched it back.
Members of the Bodden Town Heritage Committee group, who are known for their talents in preparing local specialities such as fish rundown and heavy cakes, regularly organize events in the district to give visitors and locals an opportunity to learn more about Cayman’s culture and traditions.
Proceeds from the events will go towards future projects and events hosted by the committee.
