GT man admits burglaries for liquor

A man appeared in Summary Court on Friday morning and pleaded guilty to a burglary that had occurred less than 48 hours earlier.

Tony Edward General, 53, admitted breaking into the Paradise Bar and Grill on South Church Street and stealing several bottles of various brands of rum. Value of the goods was $200.

A police press release issued on Thursday said officers responded around midnight on Wednesday to a report of the break-in and arrested a man at the scene. A rock had been used to smash the glass in the door to gain entry.

General, a George Town resident, also pleaded guilty to burglary at the Green Parrot Bar on North Church Street on July 7. There he stole beer, tequila and vodka with a total value of $110.

Chief Magistrate Nova Hall remanded him in custody until September 22, when he is scheduled for sentencing. General was represented by attorney John Furniss.
