Drivers on the Linford Pierson Highway Friday afternoon between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. can take advantage of Cayman’s first “Drive-Thru Prayer” service.
Torrance Bobb, pastor of the First Assembly of God, who is spearheading the initiative, says the set-up is designed to offer spiritual support to Christians and non-Christians during stressful times.
According to the pastor, the whole process will take just about five minutes per vehicle and then motorists can be on their way.
“We see a need for prayer and for utilizing the time that commuters spend in traffic. People are hurting, and people have needs,” said Pastor Bobb.
“With the ‘busyness’ of life, it’s an avenue to stop and have someone pray with you during a stressful time of waiting in traffic,” he said.
Members of the church team holding large signs will direct traffic off the highway to waiting “prayer warriors,” pastors and counselors. For those requesting further prayer assistance, a team inside the church will assist.
Motorists can pull into the car park of the First Assembly of God church at 195 Old Crewe Road and receive prayer, a quick word of encouragement or a spiritual pick-me-up, Pastor Bobb said.
The church plans to make the “Drive-Thru Prayer” service a recurring event so that people can have prayer support. “We trust that God can meet them at the point of their need,” the pastor said.
The drive-thru prayer is simply a service, not an enticement to join the church. It is an outreach to share God’s love with the community and those who might need spiritual guidance, Pastor Bobb said.
“People are always in need of prayer,” he added.
The pastor goes on to say that prayer is not the only thing the church is offering – motorists can also get a free bottle water of water to drink while they receive guidance through prayer.
