Cricket’s 2014 Challenge Trophy promises to be the best ever with nationals from 15 countries living in the Cayman Islands combining in the competition.
This annual tournament begins this Saturday and is scheduled to be completed on Sunday, Oct. 26 involving six teams.
The matches will be played on Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 2.30 p.m. at the Smith Road Oval and Jimmy Powell Oval.
Players called for national team preparation to participate in the International Cricket Council Americas T20 championships in November hope through the Challenge Trophy tournament to impress the selectors.
Cayman Islands, lead by Troy Taylor, are determined to make it three wins in a row. They have won the past two tournaments and will be up against Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, the Commonwealth and World Stars. T20 is an action-packed version of cricket with non-stop action over three hours.
Local players will be trying to emulate the style of the millionaire pros, in particular Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine.
