Cayman Islands netball is starting its new season in style.
The Cayman Islands Netball Association is staging its annual uniform parade on Nov. 29 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. The event, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m., is part of the opening ceremony for the 2014-2015 national women’s league. The parade gives local teams an opportunity to showcase their flair for netball.
A number of squads earned prizes last year. Prospect Primary School won the Under-9 division, with George Town Primary placing second and Red Bay Primary finishing third. George Town won the Under-11 category, with Red Bay in second and Prospect claiming third place. The John Gray High School Blazers won the high school competition and Rising Stars Netball Club won the adult segment, as Flames Strikers came second and All Stars Netball Club ended up third.
Once the formalities are over, attention will shift to the court. Roma United Sports Club won the 2013-2014 Appleby Netball League, beating out arch-rivals and previous two-time nationals champions All Stars, whose A team was sponsored by Conyers. The All Stars B team, sponsored by Cayman National Bank, won a division title along with newcomers Blue Diamonds. Consolation titles were awarded to Rising Stars A, Affinity Sapphires and the University College of the Cayman Islands.
