Tourist drowns while snorkeling

A man from the United States, visiting from the Cruise Ship Holland America, drowned Friday afternoon while snorkeling off Seven Mile Beach, police reported.

The Michigan man, 35, was traveling with his wife and 7-year-old child.

Red Sail Sports called 911 just before 3:30 p.m. Friday when the man’s wife said she couldn’t find her husband in the waters off Tiki Beach. Police say staff from Red Sail responded on Jet Skis and found the man unconscious. Red Sail staff performed CPR, but the man did not respond, according to police.

Medics transported the man to Cayman Islands Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers from West Bay Police Station are investigating the death.
