A 69-year-old sailor was rescued by marine police after his boat capsized in the North Sound on Saturday.
The man was sailing with a friend in the small catboat when it capsized in rough seas. His friend was able to swim back to shore and raise the alarm before returning in a neighbor’s boat to aid the search.
The sailor was found by his friend and was being assisted in the water when marine police arrived on the scene.
Richard Connolly of the marine police unit said the man was unconscious when he was pulled from the ocean by officers, who administered oxygen. He was rushed to shore and taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was recovering on Sunday. Police estimate the man was adrift in the North Sound for more than an hour before he was rescued around 6:30 p.m.
