Panthers pounce on Strikers

Panthers rebounded in the women’s cricket league from their loss the previous weekend to score an emphatic 7 wicket victory over Strikers.

The match at the John A Cumber Primary School ground saw Strikers bat first and they got off to a good start through Sandra Johnson and Vanessa Cameron.

Panthers slowly gained control and conceded only 100 runs. At their turn Panthers Carneth Thomas, Wyvonne Forbes, Molly Ann Moore and Natalia Henry were in an all-out attack mode and completed the victory in 13 overs.

In men’s Division 1, By Rite defeated Police by 115 runs in a match controlled by national all-rounder Conroy Wright.

With his team struggling after losing 4 wickets for 53 runs, Wright 81 combined with Fabian Hajarie 71 to gain By Rite a respectable 228 runs. Wright returned with the ball to destroy Police, picking up 5 wickets.

At Jimmy Powell Oval, Greenies returned to winning ways by defeating Prison. Having scored 238 runs, Greenies bowlers made short work of the Prison batsmen and won by 146 runs. Amongst the Greenies bowling attack was Rory Forbes, only 16 years old, making his Division 1 debut and a fine one it was. Forbes took 3 wickets for 7 runs.

In the only Division 2 match played Greenies Too had an early lunch as Chillies had no answer to the bowling of Peter Bigwood who took 4 wickets and Jerry Beck 3 wickets. Greenies Too won by 8 wickets.
