Track chief passes course

Dr. Dalton Watler-Lyons has successfully completed the MEMOS course – Executive Masters in Sport Organisations Management.

A MEMOS course teaches professionals working for sports bodies how to better manage their organizations.

MEMOS is organized by the International Olympic Committee, which through the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee provided him with a scholarship to cover the majority of costs associated with the year-long program.

The four modules were held in Barcelona, Spain, then Bogota, Colombia, followed by Madrid, Spain, and Lausanne, Switzerland, home of the IOC headquarters.

Watler-Lyons is president of the Cayman Islands Athletics Association. For his project, he chose to develop an educational module and program to identify and select local athletes.

“The Olympic ideals and the quality of the program made a great impression on me,” he said. “It does not matter where you come from, for when you love and appreciate sports, we all share the same views and ideals, and it was a great learning environment.”

Lat month, Walter-Lyons also launched his book “Sports In Socio-Political Territory, Game Performances and Tourism,” in which a chapter is derived from his research for his MEMOS dissertation.
